Rumar development diary: #2
Friday, June 26:
Started implementing both the API side and the mobile framework side for the remote updatable configuration.
The configuration consists of settings and resources so it can be used to update a game with downloadable content.
I can ship a default configuration with the game and force it to be updated by the server when the game starts.
This will make our platform highly flexible!
It allows me to keep the initial app size small and download its content during launch and I can tweak game settings (such as difficulty) after the game has been released.
Tuesday, June 30:
Finished the configuration update procedures yesterday and tested it on iOS/Android.
I feel that I need to come up with a game idea now so I can start implementing its basics and expand the framework while I’m at it.
The first game needs to be simple so I can also pay enough attention to the framework while working at it.
One of my ideas felt like the perfect fit so I cooked up a working prototype of the core gameplay: http://rumargaming.github.io/prototype-01/
It’s very basic, but I think it has potential once I start adding features to it and I have loads of ideas for those.
I will spend the rest of the day working out the game design so I can start development later this week.
